It is the umbrella organization and placeholder of the Wasserkuppe special airfield: The Society for the Promotion of Gliding on the Wasserkuppe eV (GFS).
It represents the interests of all Rhönflugvereine and operates the Wasserkuppe flying school as an economic in-house operation.
It is also the recognized training company according to ATO of EASA under the number DE.HE.ATO.007.
President of the GFS is the district administrator of the district of Fulda, Bernd Woide. Vice Presidents are Günter Schneider, Frank Thies and Markus Kurz.
The headmaster of the GFS is Lukas Schmidt-Nentwig, the head of training is Harald Jörges.
The board is composed of assessors from all Rhönflugvereine and speakers on the respective areas.
