In this 6-day course you will learn about pilot training on the Wasserkuppe.

Together with your flight instructor you will take off on the Mountain of the Aviators in a two-seater glider using a winch tow for the first training flights.

Suggestion:

If you take part in both course weeks, training up to solo flying qualification is possible.

Affordable package as an anniversary offer: “All You Can Fly” including meals for the entire course period in the “Restaurant Weltensegler”
Efficient training thanks to individual flight instructor support

The flying day in the gliding beginners course

We start the flying day at 8 a.m. with a breakfast together in the Weltensegler restaurant, right on Germany's highest airfield on the Wasserkuppe.

After the obligatory daily briefing, you and your experienced flight instructor will start your first training flights in a two-seater glider using winch towing.

You will learn step by step, with personal flight instructor support and at your own pace, how to take off, fly and land safely in a glider.

Later, after you have achieved solo flying qualification, your flight instructor will accompany you via radio from the ground on your solo flights until you land.

After lunch and a lunch break, further flights are on the program until around sunset.

We end the day with dinner together – in the tradition of the aviation pioneers – in a relaxed atmosphere and with a reflection on the course day.

We carry out as many flights as possible during the course. If the weather doesn't cooperate, a gliding simulator is available for indoor training.

Requirements for participation

  • a minimum age of 14 years (persons under 18 can participate with the written consent of all legal guardians); There is no upper age limit as long as you are fit to fly.
  • a height of no more than 2 meters
  • a body weight of no more than 100 kg

Issue of fitness to fly: For the training flights with a flight instructor as part of this course, you do not necessarily need an aeromedical examination. You only have to present such a medical examination before your first solo flight.

If you are aiming for solo flight qualifications and further training to obtain a glider license, you should have your medical issued by an aviation doctor before the course begins. You can find a list of aviation doctors in Germany here.

You should bring that with you

  • Headgear
  • sunglasses
  • Clothing (suitable for outdoor use, such as hiking)
  • Drinking bottle/snacks for in between

Accommodation recommendations

If you stay in one of the two hotels or in the Wasserkuppe holiday village, you won't need a car during your course: the accommodation on the Wasserkuppe is just a minute's walk from the flying school.

What happens after the course?

Learning to fly is an individual matter. With our anniversary course you get a cheap and easy introduction to gliding training.

The course goal “ready to fly alone” is realistic if you take part in both course weeks.

For the further training To obtain your license, you will then complete theory units and further solo flights until you are ready to take the exam.

Your advantage: We train every day throughout the season, depending on flying weather. This enables you to receive maximum individual training at your own pace.

Gliding is cheaper than you might think!

Our anniversary course offer of just 1000 euros fixed price per course week (Monday to Saturday) includes, in addition to practical training with individual flight instructor support according to the motto “All you can fly”, also full board (breakfast-lunch-dinner) in the airfield restaurant World sailors.

Because it is not necessary to purchase your own aircraft for gliding, the costs for gliding are no higher than for many comparable hobbies and sports - although: What is comparable to gliding...? 😎
