We are the oldest gliding school in the world!
Fritz Stamer was the first flight instructor to train the flight students. The Wasserkuppe as a treeless hill with sloping slopes and wide landing fields was the ideal place for this.
This is where the name Wasserkuppe comes from, which has nothing to do with water: it was that "Wasenkuppe" (waste as a Low German term for grasslands): so the "Hill with many meadows."
In 1924 the “Martens flight school” was founded on the Wasserkuppe, which exclusively trained in gliding.

Today, more than 90 years later, we have become a modern service company, but we have not forgotten the “spirit of the glider pioneers”: There is a friendly atmosphere here, we see ourselves as partners of all pilots and are always motivated to fulfill their flight wishes .
In our mixed-age team, everyone will find the flight instructor they trust. Our employees in the office, administration and workshop are always there for you.
Wasserkuppe air sports center
In our newly built air sports center, we are the number 1 contact point for all matters relating to flying on the Wasserkuppe. Our modern aircraft fleet leaves nothing to be desired. And with our own restaurant “Weltensegler” we offer the meeting point for all pilots and those who want to become one!
