May 24, 2026 – What does it feel like when a wind hurls you into the sky with tremendous force – and suddenly there is only silence? We experienced it ourselves. For our report, we climbed into the cockpit at Germany's highest airfield, the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön Mountains – and experienced firsthand what it means to truly feel the air.
The cable releases, the ground shrinks, the horizon expands – and for a moment, the sky is yours alone. No engine, no noise, just wind and vastness. Anyone who has ever sat in a glider immediately understands why people chase this feeling their whole lives.
